Free HTML starter templates

Three simple, responsive websites you can download, edit and publish today. Plain HTML and CSS, with nothing to install and no account needed.

Pick a starting point

Simple starter page

A friendly one-page site: introduction, about, a few things to link to, and contact. The best place to begin.

Good for: First websites, personal pages, clubs and hobby projects

Portfolio

A project grid with room for six pieces, an about section and a CV link. Works for photography, design, illustration and student work.

Good for: Students, photographers, designers, makers and job-seekers

Small business one-pager

Services, opening hours, address and a click-to-call button on one page. Pair it with email on your own domain.

Good for: Sole traders, local trades, startups and small shops with a physical location

What you get

  • One page each: index.html and a separate style.css.
  • Responsive layouts that work on phones, tablets and desktops.
  • Light and dark appearance that follows the visitor’s device setting.
  • Semantic HTML with headings and landmarks, which helps accessibility and search engines.
  • No JavaScript, no tracking and no external requests, so pages stay fast.

Publish in five steps

  1. Download a template and unzip it on your computer.
  2. Open index.html in a plain text editor and replace every placeholder (names, email, phone, address).
  3. Optionally try your edits in the HTML preview tool.
  4. In DirectAdmin open System Info & Files › File Manager and go to domains/yourdomain.co.uk/public_html. Delete any placeholder index.html you did not create.
  5. Upload index.html and style.css, then visit your domain.

Make it yours

  • Colours: change the values at the top of style.css; everything else follows.
  • Images: put them in an images folder, always add descriptive alt text, and compress them first. Image optimisation.
  • More pages: copy index.html to about.html, edit it and link to it from the navigation.
  • Names: keep file names lower case. Linux hosting is case-sensitive.

What is inside index.html

Every page follows the same shape, which is worth learning:

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en-GB">
<head>
  <meta charset="utf-8">
  <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
  <title>Your Site Name | What you do</title>
  <meta name="description" content="One clear sentence for search results.">
  <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css">
</head>
<body>
  <header>…</header>
  <main>…</main>
  <footer>…</footer>
</body>
</html>

Common questions

Are the templates really free to use?

Yes. Download them, change them and publish them on any website, with no sign-up and no attribution needed. Traxio does not add tracking or links back to itself.

Do they work with WordPress?

No, these are plain HTML sites. For WordPress, pick a theme instead: choosing WordPress themes and plugins.

Can I use them on another host?

Yes. They are ordinary HTML and CSS files, so they work on any web host, including free static hosts. Traxio is simply a good place to put them if you also want email, a database or WordPress later.

Is there a contact form?

No. A form needs server-side code to send the message. The templates use a mailto link; you can add a form later, for example through a PHP script or a WordPress plugin.
