We don't sell domains — and that's the point

Traxio isn't a domain registrar. We focus on doing one thing well: free, honest DirectAdmin hosting. If you already own a domain from any registrar, you can point it at Traxio in minutes and get hosting for free.

Keep your domain wherever you like

Plenty of hosts bundle domains with hosting to lock you in. We'd rather you keep full control of your domain with whichever registrar you trust, and use us just for hosting.

Free hosting either way

Whether your domain is with 123-Reg, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or anywhere else, our free plan works the same way.

No lock-in

You stay in control of your domain's registration, renewal, and ownership at all times. We never touch that side of things.

Simple DNS pointing

Update your nameservers or A records to point at Traxio and your site goes live on your existing domain. Our knowledgebase has step-by-step guides.

Why separating registrar and host protects you

The domain is the only part of a website that cannot be rebuilt. Files can be re-uploaded, databases restored, hosts replaced in an afternoon — but every link you have ever earned, every bookmark, every ranking and every business card points at the name. Whoever controls the registration controls all of it.

That is exactly why so many hosts want to sell you one. A “free domain with hosting” is rarely generosity: it is free in year one, renews above market rate, and — the important part — sits inside the account of the company you would be negotiating with if you ever wanted to leave. The domain becomes the lock, and the renewal invoice becomes the leverage. None of that requires bad faith on the host's part; the structure does the work by itself.

Keeping the registration with an independent registrar removes the leverage entirely. Your host can be replaced by editing one DNS record; your registrar can be replaced with a standard transfer; and no single company can hold the whole site hostage, us included. We built Traxio around that separation on purpose: if we ever stopped deserving your £0.99, you should be able to act on that by Friday.

It also keeps our incentives clean. Hosts that retail domains make much of their margin on registration renewals and upsells — privacy protection, premium DNS, transfer fees. We would rather have one honest product than a checkout full of them.

Choosing a registrar, since we won't sell you one

Any established registrar works with Traxio — the requirements are only that you can edit nameservers and that renewals are priced sanely. When comparing, check three things: the renewal price rather than the first-year teaser (the same trick hosting pulls lives here too); that WHOIS privacy is included free, as it now is at most reputable registrars; and that transfers out are unhindered — a registrar confident of keeping you does not need to make leaving tedious.

Expect to pay roughly £8–£12 a year for a .co.uk and £10–£15 for a .com at honest renewal rates. Once registered, pointing it here takes minutes: the exact records are in the knowledgebase, and the DNS explainer covers what each one means if you would like to understand rather than copy.

Bring-your-own-domain questions

Can I use a domain I registered years ago with any registrar?

Yes. Any domain at any registrar works — you update its nameservers (or an A record) to point at Traxio, and the site goes live on it. Registration stays exactly where it is, untouched by us.

Do I have to transfer my domain to Traxio?

No, and you cannot — we are not a registrar, so there is nothing to transfer it to. That is a feature: your registration never sits with the company that hosts your site, which is the arrangement that protects you.

What if I don't own a domain yet?

Register one first with any independent registrar — typically £8–£12 a year for a .co.uk — then point it here. It is the one part of a website worth owning outright from day one, and the getting-started guide explains why in full.

Can I use a subdomain from another service?

Hosting here works with domains you control the DNS for. A subdomain of someone else's platform belongs to that platform — which is precisely the arrangement this page is trying to talk you out of.

How long does pointing a domain take?

The edit takes two minutes; the world catching up usually takes under an hour, occasionally longer, governed by DNS caching. The propagation section here explains the mechanism — and the TTL trick that shrinks the wait.

Domain FAQ

No. Traxio only offers web hosting. For domain registration, renewal, or transfers, you'll need to use a domain registrar of your choice. Once you have a domain, we're happy to host it for free.
Yes — that's the only way our free plan works. Point your existing domain's nameservers or DNS records at Traxio and you're ready to go, whichever registrar you use.
Most DNS and nameserver changes propagate within a few hours, though it can occasionally take up to 24-48 hours depending on your registrar and previous DNS settings.
Yes. Since your domain stays registered with your own registrar, renewals, ownership, and billing for the domain itself are handled entirely by them, not by Traxio.
