  • Outlook repeatedly shows a password prompt
  • The correct password is rejected in Outlook but works in webmail
  • The prompt appeared after changing the password

1. Confirm the password in webmail

If webmail rejects it too, reset the password in E-mail Manager then E-mail Accounts. How to change an email account password

2. Username must be the full address

Check both incoming and outgoing server settings. Outlook sometimes saves only the part before the @.

3. Outlook set the account up as Exchange or Microsoft 365

Outlook tries to auto-detect providers and can configure a domain address as Microsoft 365. Traxio mailboxes are IMAP.

Fix: remove the account and add it again, choosing IMAP in advanced setup. How to set up your email in Outlook

4. Old saved credentials (Windows)

  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Open Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials.
  3. Remove entries mentioning your email address or mail server.
  4. Open Outlook and enter the password once when prompted, ticking Remember.

5. Other devices using the old password

Phones or tablets repeatedly failing with an old password can temporarily block logins from your connection. Update the password everywhere, then wait before trying again.

6. New Outlook for Windows

New Outlook syncs IMAP accounts through Microsoft’s cloud. If it won’t accept the account, try classic Outlook or another app, and check with a test in webmail that the mailbox works.
