DNS in practice tutorials

Adding records and proving they work.

3 tutorials, easiest first

DNS changes are quick to make and easy to get subtly wrong. These tutorials pair every change with a way to prove it worked, using lookups against Traxio's nameservers and public resolvers. The diagnosis tutorial walks the chain from registry to browser, so you can find exactly where a domain stops resolving instead of waiting and hoping.

  1. Add a DNS record and prove it works

Add an A, CNAME, MX or TXT record in DirectAdmin, then check the authoritative answer and public DNS so you know it’s live.

Covers: Read the instructions you were given; Open DNS Management; Add the record; Look at the record list; Ask Traxio’s nameserver directly; Check public DNS; Complete the service’s check.

  2. Switch your domain’s email to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365

Keep the website on Traxio while moving your domain’s email to an external provider, with no lost messages.

Covers: Verify the domain; Create the users at the provider; Lower the MX TTL; Replace the MX records; Update SPF; Add DKIM and other records; Test; Move old messages; Remove the Traxio mailboxes.

  3. Diagnose a DNS problem step by step

Trace a domain from registry to record — registration, nameservers, authoritative answers, caches and DNSSEC — to find exactly where resolution breaks.

Covers: Confirm the domain is registered and active; Check the delegation; Ask the authoritative nameserver; Compare with a public resolver; Check for DNSSEC problems; Check the specific name; Check your own device.
