SSH gives you a secure command line on your hosting account, useful for WP-CLI, Git and working with large files.
Connecting
Traxio uses port 26628 for SSH, not the default 22:
ssh -p 26628 USERNAME@yourdomain.co.uk
Use your DirectAdmin username and password. Until your domain points at Traxio, use the server address from your welcome email instead of your domain.
Tip: SFTP uses the same port and the same login. If you save the connection in an app like FileZilla, set the port to 26628 there too. Connecting with FileZilla (FTP and SFTP)
To avoid typing the port every time, add this to ~/.ssh/config on your computer:
Host traxio
HostName yourdomain.co.uk
User USERNAME
Port 26628
Then connect with ssh traxio.
Use a key instead of a password
- On your computer:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 - Add the public key (
~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub) in Advanced Features then SSH Keys. - Connect again; you won’t be asked for a password.
Useful commands
cd ~/domains/yourdomain.co.uk/public_html
du -sh * # what's using space
tail -n 50 ../logs/error.log
php -v
wp core version # WP-CLI, run inside a WordPress folder
If it won’t connect
- Timed out or refused: check the port is 26628. Some workplace networks block unusual ports, so try mobile data.
- Permission denied: check the DirectAdmin username and password, or that the key you added matches the one your computer is offering.
What you can’t do
Shared hosting gives a restricted, user-level shell: no sudo, no root access and no installing system packages. Node.js and Python apps are set up through DirectAdmin rather than started by hand from the shell. Can I run Node.js, Python or Ruby apps on Traxio?
Questions people ask
What port does SSH use on Traxio?
Port 26628, not the default 22. SFTP uses the same port.
Can I use sudo or install packages?
No. SSH gives you a user-level shell on shared hosting, so there’s no root access, sudo or system package installation.
