Node.js and Python: yes. Ruby: no.
Alongside PHP and MySQL/MariaDB, a Traxio account can run Node.js and Python applications, with several versions of each to choose from.
Setting up an app
Node.js and Python apps are created in DirectAdmin (Extra Features then Setup Node.js App and Extra Features then Setup Python App), where you pick the version, the folder the app lives in and the address it’s served from. You can then upload your code with SFTP or Git and install dependencies over SSH. How to connect to your hosting with SSH
What to expect on shared hosting
- Shared resources. Your app shares the account’s CPU, memory and 3GB of disk with everything else on it, so it suits small apps, APIs and personal projects rather than heavy workloads. Understanding your hosting limits
- No root access. You can install your app’s own dependencies, but not system packages or server software.
- Served through the web server. The app is reached at your domain or a subdomain, not on a public port of its own.
- Your code is yours to debug. The help desk covers the hosting and the server, not your application.
You may not need a server-side app at all
Anything that compiles to plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript runs without Node.js on the server: Astro, Hugo, Eleventy, Jekyll, a React or Vue app built with npm run build, or Next.js with static export. Static files are the fastest and lightest option. Hosting static sites and JavaScript framework builds
Ruby
Ruby and Rails applications aren’t supported. A VPS or a platform built for Ruby is the right tool. Shared hosting vs VPS vs dedicated servers
