SPF, DKIM and DMARC when your DNS isn’t at Traxio

If your domain’s DNS is at Cloudflare or your registrar, copy these email records across so mail sent from Traxio still authenticates.

When your nameservers point to Traxio, DirectAdmin publishes your email records automatically. When DNS lives somewhere else, DirectAdmin’s DNS page isn’t what the world sees, so you must copy the records across.

Records to copy

From Account Manager then DNS Management, copy each of these to your DNS provider:

RecordNameNotes
AmailYour server IP. At Cloudflare, set to DNS only.
MX@Points to mail.yourdomain.co.uk
TXT (SPF)@Merge with any existing v=spf1 record
TXT (DKIM)x._domainkeyLong key; copy exactly
TXT (DMARC)_dmarcCreate one if it doesn’t exist. How to set up a DMARC record

Copying the DKIM key without breaking it

  • Copy the full value from v=DKIM1 to the end.
  • Some providers need the key as one line; others split it into quoted chunks. Paste it as one value and let the provider format it.
  • Don’t add or remove spaces inside the key.

Checking the result

Query the public DNS, not DirectAdmin:

dig yourdomain.co.uk MX +short
dig yourdomain.co.uk TXT +short
dig x._domainkey.yourdomain.co.uk TXT +short
dig _dmarc.yourdomain.co.uk TXT +short

Then send a test to a Gmail address and check Show original for SPF, DKIM and DMARC all passing.

If the DKIM key changes

If DKIM is disabled and re-enabled in DirectAdmin, a new key is generated. Copy the new value across again, or DKIM fails.
