If your domain uses Traxio’s nameservers, Account Manager then DNS Management is where its DNS records live.
Note: Using another DNS provider? Changes here have no effect on the live domain. Make them at your provider instead. Nameservers vs DNS records: what’s the difference?
Opening DNS Management
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- Open Account Manager then DNS Management.
- If you’re asked, choose the domain.
You’ll see the list of records: type, name, value and TTL.
Adding a record
- Select Add Record.
- Choose the type (A, CNAME, MX, TXT).
- Enter the name, value and, for MX, the priority.
- Save.
Naming: the part people get wrong
| You want | Enter as name |
|---|---|
| The bare domain | The domain itself, e.g. yourdomain.co.uk. |
| A subdomain | Just the prefix, e.g. shop |
| DMARC | _dmarc |
A name without a trailing dot has the domain added automatically. A name with a trailing dot is used exactly as written. Entering shop.yourdomain.co.uk without the dot creates shop.yourdomain.co.uk.yourdomain.co.uk.
Editing and deleting
Use the edit option on a record to change its value, or select and delete it. Before deleting anything you didn’t create, find out what it does:
mail, MX and SPF records → email stops if removed- NS records → never delete these
www→ the www version of your site stops working
Resetting to defaults
If records have become a mess, DirectAdmin can reset the zone to its default records. That removes every custom record, including verification and external email records, so note those down first.
After a change
New records usually appear within minutes; edited ones follow their previous TTL. How to check DNS records (dig, nslookup and online tools)
