What are inodes and why do they matter?

Quick answerBeginnerUpdated

Short answer

An inode is one file or folder — so the inode count is simply how many separate items your account holds, regardless of their size. A single 1GB video uses one; a cache folder of 100,000 tiny files uses 100,000.

This is a general web-hosting explanation, not specific to Traxio.

It matters because accounts with enormous numbers of tiny files are slow to back up and slow to move. Cache directories, old plugin folders and email with years of small messages are the usual sources.
