Changing nameservers is the simplest way to connect a domain. If your DNS needs to stay where it is, you can point individual records at Traxio instead.
Note: A records pass DNS Guard’s check just as nameservers do: it looks at where the domain resolves, not who hosts its DNS. Cloudflare-proxied records pass too. DNS Guard: why your domain needs to point to Traxio
When this makes sense
- You use Cloudflare or another DNS provider for other reasons
- Other services on the domain are managed elsewhere and you’d rather not move them
- An organisation controls the domain’s DNS and will only add records
What to add at your DNS provider
Get your account’s server IP address from DirectAdmin: open Account Manager then DNS Management and look at the A record for your domain.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ (the bare domain) | Your Traxio server IP |
| CNAME | www | yourdomain.co.uk |
If you’ll use Traxio email, also add:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | mail | Your Traxio server IP |
| MX | @ | mail.yourdomain.co.uk (priority 10) |
| TXT | @ | Your SPF record (How to set up an SPF record) |
| TXT | x._domainkey | Your DKIM key (SPF, DKIM and DMARC when your DNS isn’t at Traxio) |
What changes for you
With nameservers at Traxio, DirectAdmin’s DNS is live. With this method, your provider’s DNS is live and DirectAdmin’s DNS page is ignored by the outside world. Any change — a new subdomain, an email record, a verification code — has to be made at your provider.
Important: If the server IP changes, sites connected this way go offline until you update the records yourself. Nameserver-connected domains follow the change automatically.
SSL
The free certificate needs your domain to reach Traxio directly. If you proxy through Cloudflare, see Using Cloudflare with Traxio hosting.
