Short answer
An MX record says which mail server receives email for your domain. Without a correct MX record, messages sent to your address bounce or vanish — it has nothing to do with whether your website loads.

MX records have a priority number. The lowest number is tried first; the others are backups. If you move email to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, replacing the MX records is the change that actually redirects your mail.
