Short answer
Build and test the site on Traxio first while the old host keeps serving visitors, then switch the domain’s nameservers last. Done in that order, nobody sees downtime.
The general sequence for any site:
- Set up the Traxio account and upload the files (or install WordPress).
- Import the database if the site has one.
- Preview the site on Traxio before touching DNS.
- Recreate your email addresses, if you host email with your web host.
- Switch nameservers, and leave the old hosting running for a week.
Cancelling the old hosting immediately is the one mistake that makes a migration painful.
